Homelessness is a big, yet maybe not so noticeable, problem in our state, and especially Raleigh alone. There are about 1,170 people without homes in Raleigh, and this number includes all men, women, and children. The majority (56%) of that 1170 are men with no children. This is probably because more women and children are helped off the streets and into organization's facilities such as the Salvation Army, Raleigh Rescue Mission, the Helen Wrights center, Wrenn Housing, and the Women's Center of Wake County. These places take all or mostly women because they are usually the ones in custody of children, who need more stability, and are in more danger on the streets. Unfortunately this comes with a number of organization's for men being far less. Homelessness doesn't affect men any less or more than women. Yes, while the situation is different for everyone, that doesn't change the fact that everyone needs help. We can help by assembling care packages with necessities (tooth brushes, water, non-perishable food, wash cloths, you get the idea). You can also give your time to volunteering at shelters and other places that help with the issue.

Great blog post! Homelessness is a huge problem that needs to be brought to an end. Do you know why there is such a large amount of people homeless here? Is there any significance about NC that increases homelessness? Thanks!

AuthorHi guys! I am an 8th grade student who loves to dance, read, and do anything outside. This blog might start to look like a hodge-podge of different things (and quite honestly it probably will be) as I will be using this for school projects, my own thoughts, dance, and basically anything else.
